Gerbera is a genus of about 40 species of flowering plants .
These perennials bear a large capitulum with ray florets in various colors.
Gerberas are beautiful indoor plants and one of the most popular cut flowers.
The species are 20 to 45 cm (8-18 inches) tall. The flower heads vary from 7 to 12 centimeters (3 to 5 inches) in diameter.
Gerberas prefer rich and well drained soil, with lots of added organic matter. They grow best in a slightly acidic soil with a pH of 5.5 - 6.5.
They continue to release a continuous stream of fresh oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide and other toxins found in the air.
Gerberas are one of the longest lasting flowers when used as a cut flower in a vase, averaging up to 14 days.
